Thanks for making Nomorobo an important and useful option. It is a shame that Verizon (Mid Atlantic Maryland) no longer provides a similar service as they once did.It seems the phone company has a preference in favor of commerical interests over residential customers regarding robocall blocking. I have benefited by the 'one ring cut-off' of robocallers but wish it was a "no-ring". You provide a customer service that easily surpasses the phone company or government protection against such increasing intrusions on privacy.

it helps but the fact that my phone still rings once can be annoying late at night. Also MANY calls are still coming thru> The stupid cable company ( Time Warner) ALLOWS unidentified calls even tho I have blocked them as they consider " name unavailable" to be an identity!!!!!thnx for all you are doing to try to knock off this nonsense! I did not have this kind of trouble with phone calls until we switched to Time Warner!! and yet we pay $2 to be unlisted..... what a waste!

This is the greatest invention. We have had many "one ring" calls since we signed up for nomorobo and it even keep annoying political callers from getting through (we could see who was calling on our Caller ID ). We hope to be able to add our cell phone numbers as soon as nomorobo gives the heads up on that. Thank you so much! We have already given out the web site to several family and friends. And they have been grateful too.

I've been signed up with Nomorobo since March of 2013. Without ANY doubt, Nomorobo is the BEST thing to happen to our phone system in a long, long time. It just baffled me for DECADES how unsolicited, scam phone calls were (and still are) allowed by the FCC. The Do Not Call Registry is a joke, nothing more than a political token gesture, in my opinion. I see absolutely ZERO enforcement of that registry. On top of that, the latest scam of caller ID spoofing is another atrocity that I simply cannot believed is possible. How can phone companies, and/or the FCC, allow spoofing? Anyway, I was always looking for a way to stop these annoying calls, and never came up with any working solution until Nomorobo came along. Thank you so VERY, VERY much. The ONLY improvement to Nomorobo that I'll mention, and don't get me wrong, I'll continue to take/love Nomorobo just the way it is since this improvement may not be possible, would be if my phone didn't ring at all from the robocalls. As a side note; I am such a strong supporter of this type of home privacy protection that I would like to VOLUNTEER to help Nomorobo in some way. If there is something I can do to support and/or help Nomorobo, please contact me (I did send an email to this effect earlier this year, but never received any response). KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, AND THANKS AGAIN.

I smile when the phone rings just once and then ends. I know a robo call was just blocked.

FAQs

How to check if a number is a robocall? ›

If you answer the phone and hear a recorded message instead of a live person, it's a robocall. A robocall trying to sell you something is illegal unless the company trying to sell you something got written permission, directly from you, to call you that way.

What happens if you answer a robocall but don t say anything? ›

If you answer the call, your number is considered 'good' by the scammers, even if you don't necessarily fall for the scam. They will try again because they know someone on the other side is a potential victim of fraud. The less you answer, the fewer robocalls you will receive.

How do I get a robocall to stop calling me? ›

The National Do Not Call Registry protects landline and wireless phone numbers. You can register your numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry at no cost by calling 1-888-382-1222 (voice) or 1-866-290-4236 (TTY). You must call from the phone number you wish to register.

What happens if you answer yes to a robocall? ›

By responding “yes,” people notify robo-callers that their number is an active telephone number that can be sold to other telemarketers for a higher price. This then leads to more unwanted calls.

Is this a legitimate number? ›

One way to check if a number is potentially a scam is to use a reverse phone number lookup service. These websites and apps allow you to enter a number and see public information associated with it, such as the registered name, location, and carrier.

What happens if you call back a robocall? ›

Should You Call Back a Spam Number? Never. In many cases, these calls are “one-ring” scams designed to charge you sky-high fees or get you on the phone with a fraudster. Even if you aren't sure if the call was spam, it's best to leave it alone and block the number.

Is it better to decline or not answer spam calls? ›

It's better to ignore spam calls. When you decline a call, it can alert the spammer that your phone number is active, prompting them to call you again. If you use a call-blocking tool that uses caller ID, you should never answer calls labelled as spam.

Does ignoring robocalls make them stop? ›

Contrary to popular wisdom, we found that answering calls makes no difference in the number of robocalls received by a phone number.

What numbers should you avoid answering? ›

Things You Should Know
  • Ignore calls from 3-digit international area codes that are likely to be scams, including 232, 268, 284, 473, 664, 649, 767, 809, 829, 849, and 876.
  • Be wary of calls from unknown numbers with your own area code.

How do robocalls get your number? ›

The most popular method for telemarketers to get your number is to purchase the number from a third-party data provider. There are a myriad of companies who have a variety of information about people. They collect your information through sources such as warranties as well as online purchases.

What is the code to stop robocalls? ›

The star code *60 is used by many network providers to help block spam calls. Simply dial *60 and follow the instructions to block either the most recent number or a specific number. Check with your provider to see if they offer this service. The star code *77 automatically rejects blocked or unidentified numbers.

Should you block robocalls? ›

A good way to deal with unwanted calls is to block them. Blocking software or devices can stop a lot of the unwanted calls you get — like scam calls and illegal robocalls — before they reach you.

Can someone steal my information if I answer a phone call? ›

Although cybercriminals cannot steal your information just by you answering a spam call, you should still avoid answering them to prevent them from targeting you more and falling for their scams.

Do robocalls record your voice? ›

Scammers making robocalls will ask some innocuous question. Once the targeted person says “yes,” a recording is made of the response and it is used to sign up the target for unwanted, expensive services.

Can spam calls hack your phone? ›

Your phone can't be hacked just with a regular call — but phone hackers can use fake text messages to infect your phone, and suspicious no caller ID calls may be part of a wider ploy to access your device.

How do you check if a number is on a spam list? ›

Getting calls and messages from numbers you think are spam? You can now confirm whether that number is spam with Truecaller's Spam Number Lookup! Enter the number in the search bar. Truecaller will show spam stats if it's a spam number, giving a detailed breakdown of their activities.

How can I check a number that keeps calling me? ›

Apps like Truecaller or Hiya provide caller ID services and spam detection, helping you identify unknown numbers instantly.

Is there a way to tell if a phone number is spoofed? ›

If a telephone number is blocked or labeled as a "potential scam" or "spam" on your caller ID, it is possible the number has been spoofed.

How can you check a phone number to see who is calling? ›
